Wayne Cook History Camp

We held the camp at McIntosh Reserve in Carroll County for the 6th year.  An excellent turnout was there and we can look forward to good coverage in the Ga Confederate next month.

Welcome to our newest members

The camp voted to receive a new member, Michael Brandon Sims, at our June meeting.  His Certificate is in and we will swear him in next time we see him.  We are looking forward to his uncle transferring into the camp from Villa Rica also.

Living History a Big Success!

Feb 2 was the day for a super Living History at Haralson County Middle School.  Our camp and the Forrest's Escort camp assisted the newly reactivated Haralson Invincibles Camp in this effort.  A good time was had by all and we will likely be doing this school each year.  Rain could not dampen anyone's spirits.  We were able to find a few moments with no rain for artillery demonstrations!  A big thank you to Eric Lovelace for his entertaining and informative portrayals.   He has been great to help us with Living History Days.

Echoes of the Past  -  Gettysburg revisited

In 1998, several of our compatriots traveled to Gettysburg for the unveiling of a new equestrian statue honoring General Longstreet.  Camp Commander, Doug Brown was joined by Lt. Cmdrs. Charles Beasley and Buford Brown.   Our ace photographer and former Commander, Mike Sewick brought home these great photos. Click Here!

Fairburn Confederate Monument Restoration

The monument was originally erected in 1930 by the Old Campbell County UDC.  The original location was in the old city park. (Hwy 29 and Clay St)  The monument was moved to the city cemetery in the late 40s.  Our camp has recently completed restoration of the monument and fencing.  The wrought iron railings were very rusted.  The monument itself was cleaned and minor repairs were made.  The fencing has been completely restored.  We have established a fund at Tucker Federal for the perpetual care of this historic monument.   Contributions may be made at many local area merchants or at any Tucker Federal branch.  T Shirts celebrating our Fairburn monument restoration are available at $15. Call the Longstreet camp at (770) 642-3156 or mail your check to headquarters Camp 1289   P.O. Box 460,  Union City, GA  30291 to order.

Flag Restoration Effort - Preserving Georgia's History

The Longstreet camp is proud to among the leaders in preserving Georgias historical flag collection.  There are 67 flags in the Georgia State Capitol Museum's collection.  Most of them are in deplorable condition.  The flags cover the states history from WBTS times through Desert Storm.  Past Commander, Doug Brown, is the Chairman of our Division Save the Flags Committee.  See some of the people involved in this great effort.

Georgia Division Flag Restoration Committee. This committee has been diligently working for the past year to raise funds for the restoration and preservation of our precious flag collection in the Georgia State Museum. The collection consists of 67 flags, 33 of which are Confederate Flags. Thanks to the generosity of the SCV membership, the UDC and several other historic organizations, all working together, we have raised enough money to have five of the flags restored thus far. This project is a long-term endeavor. Our projected budget is $1.5 million dollars. For more information on this project and/or to schedule a speaking engagement for your group, please contact Comdr. Doug Brown.

The Georgia Division Flag Restoration Committee has made available to you our "Official" Flag Restoration Campaign Medal and Lapel Pin. Each item is Strictly Georgia in design. The attractive medal is suspended by a yellow ribbon signifying the Georgia Division, SCV. The beautiful Gold Seal of the State of Georgia has the year that our great state seceded and the year in which it was readmitted to the Union. The Flags of the Confederate States of America adorn the Great Seal. The placard under the Great Seal states our mission. This magnificent medal is affordably priced at only $30.00 each. Numbered medals (limited to 500) are priced at only $50.00 each. Our equally attractive Lapel Pin is also distinctively Georgia in design. This beautiful pin is designed after the "unofficial" State flag, which flew from 1906-1920. It too states our mission. All proceeds from the sale of these items are donated to the "Save the Flags" effort, coordinated by the Secretary of States office, Mrs. Dorothy Olson, Museum Director. To order, please contact Comdr. Brown.
